Still Published??

I wrote about these elsewhere awhile back.  But it is said that 44% of small businesses do not have a website!  None, zilch, nada.  Not even a free hosted one.
.
That’s unbelievable and just wrong. Especially at how cheap domain hosting and web site design is these days.  there is NO excuse Not to have a website.

The surveys do not distinguish between small business and home based, yet it doesn’t matter.  That’s a lot of businesses without any proper marketing or exposure.  Ironically, today I stumbled over a bag on my front steps walking out to my truck.  I looked in and to my surprise it was the yellow pages. Imagine my surprise.  I  didn’t realize they are still being published.

Who in the world uses the yellow pages?  Better yet, who reads it??  I can not remember the last time I purposely opened up the phone book for anything.  Ok, ok, maybe there still is an audience for them; it’s a small and shrinking audience I am sure…. but I can not honestly tell a client that their advertising money is well spent in these books.  What these companies charge to advertise is unreal given the return on the money.  Give me an hour or two of your time and I will give you a much better ROI than a year in their books.

Plus, you don’t need a fancy web site to get started.   Mavrick Media can get you started for less than $100.00…  That includes hosting, your own domain name, a blog and a completely Search Engine Friendly website ready to be spidered and ready to introduce your business to the world wide web!!

If you want my yellow pages, you can find them being used for weights for my outdoor banner at festivals….

TVT Update

Updating most of our blog websites to the same template, making updates and changes easier. The Vegas Tourist (TVT)  is having it’s beauty makeover this week.

Trying for a more neutral, happy color scheme that is getting some great feedback.  Yet having some issues with the widgets used for the sidebar.  I think its more of me spending too much time in the code and getting cross-eyed!

We will see.  Maybe locking in a couple of new sponosrs for the site later this month. The page views are going up every day and the bounce rate is lower than ever.  So we must be doing something right!

TVT is also about to record their 100th podcast!!!

WP Junkies

When I started to get serious about Internet Marketing, I needed something I could sink my teeth into yet be able to pass off work to others when needed. I didn’t have a lot of time for learning curve, or to teach others and it had to be something that was search engine friendly.

So I started to play around with Word Press (WP) and fell in love. As I was hunting and pecking around, I came across a newbie web developer named Brian Gardner. He was toying around with Word Press, learning the code and making it do what he wanted it to do for his blogs.

In the process he created some amazing Word Press Themes. Knowing that most everything I needed for Wp was free, I saw no reason to pay for anything until I saw what Brian was doing and knew I had to have it.

Not only were the themes easy and workable, the support was amazing. Not only from Brian, but his band of supporters in the forums he created. Any question asked was answered. Most often the same night it was asked.

The more I played with his themes (originally called Revolution Themes) The more I got hooked on WP. What a platform. From what I was doing and what I saw others were doing with these themes, I saw the possibilities. Almost endless.

Soon, I converted almost all of my websites to WP sites and continue to build. Brian changed the names and now works under his company banner of  StudioPress and is still turning out some impressive work. Taking time out for charity events and to meet other WP fanatics, Brian is always doing something for the “Community.”

So if you are wondering, yea, I am a WP Junkie….
